working principle:

The ultraviolet spectrum is caused by the sample molecules absorbing light of a certain wavelength, causing their electrons to transition from the ground state to the excited state. The ultraviolet spectrum is also called the electronic absorption spectrum. Molecules are usually in the ground state, but when exposed to ultraviolet light, they can absorb ultraviolet light of a certain energy (ΔE=hυ), which is exactly equal to the difference between the electron ground state and the high energy state (E1~E0), causing the electrons to transition from E0 to E1. The instrument records the changes in the intensity of ultraviolet light before and after the absorption cell to obtain the ultraviolet spectrum.

The core of UV spectroscopy water quality testing technology is to detect the absorption rate of ultraviolet light in a certain substance to determine its concentration. The absorption law it is based on is the Lambert-Beer law. As the name suggests, it is a combination of Lambert and Beer's laws, and can only be applied under the condition of monochromatic light injection. I0 is the intensity of monochromatic light emitted in the initial state, and I is the intensity of monochromatic light output after absorption by a certain measured substance C. According to the proportional relationship between I intensity and C concentration, the change value of light intensity before and after input and output can be converted into concentration information.

The application of purple spectrum analysis technology in water quality monitoring can overcome the defects of traditional monitoring technology. The automatic water quality monitoring instrument developed based on traditional water quality detection technology still has problems such as large size and high maintenance cost, and cannot achieve real-time online detection. However, this method has a simple instrument structure, and the whole process does not require reagents or heating, so it can achieve  COD  Continuous, fast and stable measurement without secondary pollution.
